RwandAir increases flights to Jo’burg, Nairobi

The national carrier, RwandAir, is set to increase frequencies on the Kigali-Nairobi and Johannesburg route as a way of giving its customers more choice. The carrier operated two daily flights to the Kenyan capital. “We will maintain the daily 7am and 4pm departures from Kigali to Nairobi, but further introduced 11am flights every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday and 8.45pm flights every Monday, Thursday and Saturday,” the airline said in a statement. RwandAir’s General Manager Commercial, Alice Katiti, also announced the airline will be adding a fourth frequency to South Africa’s capital, Johannesburg. “Nairobi and Johannesburg are key hubs on the continent for travellers and we feel the need to give our guests more flexibility and options,” she said. She also attributed the initiative to the increasing demands on both destinations hence the move to avail more flights. “The recently launched Gisenyi route will also be getting two more flights bringing it to six times a week,” she added. “The delivery of our Boeing 737- 800 this August could not have come at a better time for the airline since we are already experiencing capacity constraints on some routes like Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) whose operations have now been upgraded from CRJ to Boeing 737 – 500 due to increased loads,” Katiti said. “We are pleased to now offer a business class service on this route,” she said Katiti added that the carrier will be getting its fifth weekly frequency to Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam this August. The national carrier will acquire two Boeing 737- 800 jets from Boeing Commercial Airplanes this August and September respectively. The new jets, which will be the first on RwandAir’s fleet to be fitted with in-flight entertainment system, are expected to change the airline’s on-board experience for its customers especially on the Johannesburg and Dubai routes.
